Later C17. Tall plastered house with steep roof and 2 shopfronts, 2 storeys
and attics, 5 windows. 2 gable chimney stacks in red brick, internal on E
and external on W. Small rear wing at W end, 2 storeys with internal lateral
stack. Old red tile roofs. Timberframed plastered and lined as ashlar.
Bellcast to eaves at front. Canted soffit boards supported on broad plaster
cove which is returned before corners and breaks forward over each window,
C18 flush box sashes with moulded architraves, thick glazing bars and 6/6
panes of crown glass, central door removed and 2 early C19 shopfronts now
linked. W one pilastered and has continuous entablature supported on
acanthus decorated brackets. Returns along the W gable up to the chimney.
Plinth breaks forward under pilasters. Narrow panelled soffit to continuous
cornice. E shopfront has similar pilasters and details but plain scrolled
brackets. Attics lit at front by 1 gabled dormer. Leaded-light wooden
casements to this and W gable window. Prominent when entering town from W.
