Mid C18. Red brick house of 2 storeys and cellar. L-shaped facing E and
N. Steep old red tile roof behind parapet. Gabled to S, hipped to W.
Large internal chimney stack central to N range. Internal gable stack to
S. 1½ storey rear wing to SW with slated gambrel roof. Attached on S,a
timberframed, weatherboarded and red pantiled 2 storey coach-house.
Attached on SW timberframed weatherboarded range with tiled gambrel roof
at W and pantiled next house. E front to road has 3 windows central, one
narrower over door. Red brick with stone coping to parapet. Flat gauged
arches to slightly recessed sash windows with early C19 slender reeded
architraves and corner stops. Victorian horned sashes with 2/2 panes.
Fine C18 Roman Doric doorcase with C19 half glazed door and margin lights,
deep flush panelled reveal, architrave, attached 3/4 columns and full
entablature with triangular pediment. Fret motif to each metope. N front
has similar pattern but blind recess in centre on both floors, and
Victorian oriel upper W. W face of this range has square 2 storey
Victorian bay window with casements. Interior partitions timberframed
and roof of re-used timbers. Recent fire damage but some features remain.
Panelling on Gd floor SE room on S wall with, arch headed buffet C18 with
fluted pilasters, shaped shelves and fielded door panels below. C19 fire
surround with stone slips and ci insert. On 1st floor panelling on W
wall of NE room and S wall of SE room with remains of timber cornice. S
coach-house has 2 pair double doors to front with louvred shutters to
windows over. SE range has outside kitchen at W with large W fireplace,
is plastered internally and the E half is floored as a small room in roof.
Part nearer house is in domestic use as scullery, linked by slate roofed
single storey section with 7 paned Yorkshire casement and 6 panel door
with raised and fielded panels. A restrained architectural design at the
entrance to the town.
