Reamins of Cll and C12 motte and bailey castle. Earthwork mound, flint walling.
Large oval motte, 40 ft high, with ruins of C12 shell keep on top perimeter. Remains
of chambers in north-east and south-east angles. Roughly pentagonal bailey to south
has water courses on 4 sides. Now public tennis courts and gardens; wooded with grand
avenue. Scheduled Ancient Monument. (RCHM (1911)).
