Farmhouse. Mid C16, W range C17, carefully restored c1966.
Timber frame exposed on front and rear walls with plastered
panels. Red brick sill. Projecting rear wing at N plastered.
Old red tiled hipped roofs. An early 3-unit lobby entry house
with central chimney and continuous side-jetty along the front
(E). 2-storeys timber-frame C17 rear extension with 3 half-
hipped gables along rear wall. Front has 3 3-light leaded
casement windows on each floor (renewed), a wide arched wooden
doorway with small 3-light diamond-mullioned original window over
door. Bull-nosed joists and heavy knee-braces to jetty. C20
red brick and tile lean-to with 2 hipped dormers at S end.
Clasped purlin roof with curved wind braces, collars and curved
braces to tie beams. 4-bay original structure with only N bay
partioned as parlour. Close studded walls with internal tension
braces. Several diamond mullioned original windows with shutter
grooves over. Central bay distinguished by chamfers and hollow
stops on both axial beam and joists. Holes for bearers of dais
bench (bearers preserved in house) and wall painting of cat from
same- wall removed and framed. Short edge-halved scarf joints
with bridled butts. C17 wings of lighter timbering. (Mercer
