House. Late C15 open-hall Wealden type house, chimney and floor
inserted in hall in C17, altered in early C18, C20 extensions.
Timber frame exposed with plastered panels on W end but panelled
pargetting generally. Steep, hipped roof with gablets and old
red tiles. A 2-bay former open hall with 2-storeys wings at each
end jettied to N, all under the same hipped roof with deep coved
eaves and curved brackets below the wall-plate spanning between
the jettied projections. Flush casement windows with leaded
lattice lights. Wide 4-centred heads to plank doors at each end
of cross passage at W end of hall. Formerly separate C16 single-
storey outside kitchen at SW, of similar materials, now linked to
house, has large external red brick chimney with offsets. Large
red brick central chimney of C17 with fireplace backing onto
cross passage. Large external stack at E end. 2-storeys
projection at SE with lean-to tiled porch to door in the angle.
Interior: moulded crown-post on cambered tie-beam over hall, with
hollow chamfered posts: peg holes for bench and door to parlour
and stair at E end; 2 4-centred arched service doors at W end
with axial beam morticed for uprights of partition formerly
between pantry and buttery. 3-light diamond mullioned window in
W upper room. Smoke-vent of boards over collars at E gablet end
