TL 31 NE STANDON NORTH DRIVE
4/18 Ice house at Youngshury
(350m WSW of house)
Ice house. Later C18 (date '1793' on brick at entrance). Plum
brick. Segmental vaulted narrow entrance tunnel about 3m long
and 2m high to crown, into a circular chamber about 5m across
with higher segmental domed top and steep conical well of
brickwork. Tunnel enters high up at springing of dome. 2
rebates for doors in the length of the passage. Exit under the
roots of a beech tree.
