5/7 Hamels Mansion Nos 1-5
(formerly listed as Stable
22.2.67 Block at Hamels)
Stable block, now 5 flats. 1713 for Ralph Freeman, probably
incorporating older work, converted to flats in later C20. Red
brick in English-bond with gable parapets and steep pitched roof,
now slated, crowned by an C18 clock turret and cupola. A long, 2
storeys, rectangular building lying E-W, to the N of the mansion
house and linked by early C19 service wing, now flats also.
Stable block formerly had a through-carriageway, off-centre to E.
The large arched openings survive and a wide blocked opening on N
side near E end. 2-light C19 moulded mullioned and transomed
windows (and several blocked openings) on both floors. On N
front C20 panelled doors and flat hoods on brackets. 2
pedimented Tuscan porches. Large C19 central chimneys with
