Vicarage, now a house. Early C18 incorporating external chimney
and part of adjoining W gable of late C17 brick house, NW wing
probably 1795 for Rev F E Say (Smith (1971) 19). Red brick with
black headers. 2 upper floors of NW wing timber framed and
plastered. Old red tile roofs with gable parapets. Hipped roof
to NW wing. Double-pile main block of two and a half storeys and
cellar. Upper floor of 3-storeys NW wing built over older brick
service wing. Unusual plan possibly due to incorporating earlier
structure. Facing S with main rooms in W part, small study in E
part, on right of entrance and in front of an axial stair lit by
round headed window central on the E end wall. Formerly 4
windows wide W front has had upper right hand two replaced by a
single window in late C18. Projecting brick floor band and
dentilled eaves cornice. Segmental arches to slightly recessed
boxed sash windows with moulded architrave and 6/6 panes. 2
windows to left of door and one to right. Late C18 half-glazed
panelled door set back with deep panelled reveals, and doorcase
with fluted pilasters and corner blocks. Early C18 sash windows
with heavy ovolo-moulded glazing bars surviving in kitchen on W
side. Early C18 interior features with 2-panel doors, H-hinges,
and closed string stair with turned balusters.
