House, now a PH. C16, altered in early C18 (converted to an inn
in 1800) and later C19 (probably in 1880's). Timber frame
roughcast on low red brick sill (renewed). Steep old red tile
roof extending down at rear over low rear extensions. A 3-unit
plan house with continuous front jetty on S and 2 rear lateral
chimneys. Parlour at W end, short hall-bay with axial beam
chamfered with ogee stop. 2 storeys and attics house with C19
gabled rear wing in middle with 3 low floors. Front has a
central gabled dormer on roof slope. 3 windows to each floor,
and door in middle. Shallow projection of upper floor with
moulded cove and small trusses at each end. Flush box sash
windows with 6/6 panes and shutters on ground floor. Half-glazed
door. Tall diagonal conjoined shafts to 2 chimneys. W room
panelled with bolection moulded fire surround and panel over.
large curved knee-brace to cross-beam and exposed jowled post for
jetty in E room. House of Bellenden family from early C18 to
c1800. Name from crest of Greg family.
