TL 11 NE KIMPTON RYE END

Farmhouse. C16 or earlier central hall; C17 E cross wing forming
L plan. Timber frame. Red brick and plaster infill. Some old
parqetting. Plain tile roofs. Tall central ridge chimney stack
with 4 joined shafts. 2 bays to right, including lean-to
projection. Cross wing on left is 2 bays deep with clasped
purlin roof and C19 external chimney stack on N gable end flanked
by small oven bay, Dart timber frame and tiled. At E end is a
curious late C18 addition with crenellated parapet. Square, red
brick, hipped plain tile roof. Floor bands. Single arched
windows. Windows are mostly glazing bar casements, but some C17
or C18 square leaded casements. Interior: Open brick fireplace
is set in timber frame smoke bay, sooted plaster exposed on 1st
floor. Roll moulded floor beam and fireplace lintel.
