House, C16 origin. Formerly Church Farm. Present house built early C19,
much altered and enlarged mid C19 and C20. Red brick main range, white
brick additions, slate roof. Front range comprises front rooms and
entrance passage only. Thick wall separates this range from later
kitchen wing. Mid C19 extensions to rear and to right. Main block; 2
storeys, 4 windows. Entrance in second bay from left. Ground floor
glazing bar sashes with cambered arched heads. Fielded panelled door,
beneath semi-circular fanlight. Pilastered doorcase and simply moulded
portico. Timber modillion eaves cornice. Single gabled dormer in front
pitch of roof. Cross axial ridge stack between 2 right hand bays, right
gable end external stack; both with decorative oversailing courses. Sash
window in left gable over plat band. Large extension on left side to
rear with full height canted bay to garden at left and two double stacks
to front and back. Interior not inspected. Walling at right angles to
front separates Hall from cottage extension to right. Garden wall
extends from front wall of house to left. Hall set back from road behind
barn (q.v.)(RCHM Typescript).
