Walls and gate to terraced formal garden and swimming pool at Julians
(q.v.). C18 origins, laid out 1937-9 for Col. R. Cooper. Red brick walls
about 2m in height extend in 3 sections away from house to enclose a
rectangular garden. Brick piers with moulded stone caps, opening to E
has vase finials, ball finials to S, eagle finials to N. Rectangular
wall to N encloses swimming pool. To garden wrought iron gates with
rusticated ashlar piers with bulbous vase finials, vase finialed piers
opposite, ball finials at corners, apsidal changing room to W, open apse
to E. To NE a stone bearing the inscription 'AM/MM/WAM/1823' is
incorporated into a part of the wall once enclosing the C18 kitchen
garden. (Country Life, 20/6 and 4/7/47).
