Farm House
II
House. Late C16 or early C17 origins, extended and altered in C18 and
C19. Altered 1928, date on rainwater head. Timber frame with brick
additions, all roughcast. Machine tiled roof. Originally probably 2
cells with an C18 addition, enlarged in C19. Built as mainly single
storey now part 2 storeys, part 1 storey and attic. Original range is to
rear with early bays to left. Steeply pitched roof. Scattered flush
frame C20 casements, 3 and 4 light dormers, to centre a full height C19
gabled projection with 3 light casements. A cross axial ridge
stack between 2 left bays and end stacks, all C18 and C19, that to left
has 1 diagonally set flue and is external, others have paired diagonal
flues, that to right is extruded, red and gault brick. Left gable end
has exposed purlins with a ground floor lean-to addition. A parallel
range behind is now entrance elevation. 4 bays. Two C19 gables to right,
that to left with entrance, that to right broader and slightly
projecting, 2 bays to left have gabled dormers. C20 2 light casements.
Attached to right a lower gabled dairy. Interior: exposed framing, stop
chamfered axial bearer. (RCHM Typescript).
