9/123 The Grange
II
House. Late C16 or early C17, refronted in C19, extended C20. Timber
frame, rendered. Colourwashed gault brick refronting. Machine tiled
roof. 3 cell lobby entry with a bay to rear right forming an L on plan.
2 storeys. Entrance in hipped brick porch addition between left and
centre bays, 6 panelled door, 20 pane glazing bar sashes in reveals,
slightly cambered heads on ground floor, sprocket eaves. Original ridge
stack with large base, 4 octagonal shafts one of which is taller and an
additional square shaft added to right. Rendered left gable end with a
small pane horizontal sliding sash on first floor, shaped brackets to
jettied attic with a moulded bressumer. Roof hipped to right return also
C19 brick cased, French windows, first floor 16 pane sash and 2 light
casement, stock brick ridge stack. 2 bays to rear are C20 with entrance,
garages, hipped roof. To rear of main range a tile coped oven projection
behind stack, scattered casements, lean-to outshut in inner angle.
