BARLEY SMITH END
TL 33 NE (Northeast side)
House. Mid to late C17, extended C18 and C20. Timber frame on brick
base. Weatherboarded and rendered. Steeply pitched tiled roofs, largely
machine tiles. 2 bays, 2 storeys with an early continuous lean-to
outshut rear addition. Half hipped end to road with exposed C17 brick
plinth, 2 light flush frame small pane casements, exposed plates and
purlins. Catslide roof over lean-to addition. Right return has former
entrance porch with a raking head, 3 light casements to right. External
stack on rear gable end from which extends a lower 3 bay 1 storey and
attic C20 addition, 2 and 3 light casements with an entrance towards
rear, 2 light dormer with a raking head. To rear a further added wing
with an old tiled roof. Interior: some exposed framing with tension
braces, ogee stop chamfered bearer.
