8/40 Barn at The Grange House
Barn. Circa 1700, partly brick cased in C18 or early C19. Timber frame
on brick sill, dark weatherboarded on S, roughcast gable triangle on S,
red brick casing between bay posts. Steep pitched old red tile roof
(half-hipped) at W. A tall 5-bays structure on street corner facing S
with back and W gable on roadsides. Double doors in central bay. W bay
rebuilt in brick as stable with loft over. Stable door and window on S.
Upper floor plastered internally. Upper door in gable altered. Interior
of barn has jowled posts only at corners, unjowled posts elsewhere, long
straight braces to tie-beams. Inclined queen-struts to collars of
