House. C17 brick N range, W wing c.1700, E wing c.1874. Red brick of 4
different periods. Steep old red tile roofs to N range and hipped on W
wing. Slate roofs on E wing and lean-to at NE. An irregular 2-storeys
house facing W set back from road in former farmyard. Oldest part low N
range with N wall in header bond narrower brick with ovolo moulded
plinth offset. Door and window in S side to yard. Taller W wing joined
at an angle and with steep roof hipped to W and half-hipped to E. Plum
and blue bricks with light red brick dressings. Plinth with ovolo
moulded offset, plat band and moulded brick eaves cornice with ovolo bed
mould all in fine-joined cut and gauged brick. Former entrance front on
N with large projecting rearwall chimney. N front has 2 2-lights
casement windows to each floor and blocked central doorway. 2-lights
flush casement with small panes and segmental heads on ground floor.
Door now in W gable end to left of 2-light casement window, similar
window central on 1st floor. Door cut in with plastered reveals,
cambered head, and plank door. Iron tie-iron plate on N front inscribed
'1874/IF'. Low slate lean-to against S side. 2-storeys C19 cross-wing at
E end of N range and double pile block adjoining on S. All in brick and
slate with internal S gable chimneys. Parallel roofs to S block. This
faces W and has 2 sash windows with 8/8 panes on 1st floor, and another
to right of entrance. 6-panels half-glazed flush-beaded door in heavy
frame with flat hood on shaped brackets. Gabled porch to rear and sash
windows with 6/6 panes.
