House. Mid C17, C18 narrower E wing, early C20 garage and covered way.
Timber frame roughcast. Pargetting to E wing. Steep old red tile roofs,
E wing hipped at E. Thatched roofs to garage and covered way. A
2-storeys T-shaped house set back from road facing S with lower eaves to
hall range, projecting gabled porch in angle with W cross-wing, large
internal chimney at junction of wings, 2-storeys E wing 2 windows long
with higher eaves than hall range, and hipped roofed single storey
garage to S linked to E wing by covered way. S front has exposed purlin
ends to gable of W wing, a 4-light casement window on its ground floor,
a 3-lights similar window on 1st floor, and a 3-lights ovolo moulded 1st
floor window near RH of W side. Rectangular leaded glazing to windows.
3-lights window in hall range, and door and 2 windows to E wing. The
interior has exposed timbers, chamfered and stopped joists and beams in
parlour in W wing. Brick fireplace to this room and chamber over.
Service room at rear of W wing. The hall probably served kitchen uses
also, and the stair rose out of it. The rooms in the upper part of the
2-bays hall range were originally separated by a tie-beam at waist
height and were either meant for storage or entered by separate stairs
the E one presumably external. E wing probably added as a dairy. (RCHM
