Statue of Hercules at North end of
10/192 central alley running north from The Bury
27.5.68 at Grid Ref TL 1896 2215 (formerly
listed as The Gardens at St Paul's Walden
Bury)

GV II*

Statue. Late C17 or early C18, English, attributed to John Nost
(d.1729). Limestone. 1½ x lifesize standing figure facing S with lion's
skin draped over his left shoulder. Rough rectangular base to statue.
l½M high plinth, about 1M square in fine-grained limestone with moulded
plinth and capping. Ovolo moulding to panelled sides. Panel has drafted
margin and frosted rustication to field. Axial figure in layout of
garden, part of original conception of 1720s.
