TL 1822 ST PAUL'S WALDEN STAGENHOE PARK

GV II

Walls, gate, and gate piers. W, N and E walls C18, S wall with gate and
piers C19. Red brick in Flemish-bond, piers stucco, gate wrought iron,
cast metal stags on piers. A large rectangular walled garden with
architectural treatment of S side facing main garden. Walls c.4M high
generally but considerably higher at NW. S wall steps down slope to E.
Minor gate with square stucco piers and large ball finials on W side. S
face has square V-rusticated piers at intervals carried higher than the
walls. Top block has modelled basket of fruit in relief. Oversailing
moulded stone caps. Large urns to SW corner and 4th pier from W. Moulded
stone bedmould to York-stone coping swept down in stages. Pair of gate
piers 2nd and 3rd from W have garlanded head modelled on top block of
pier and a pair of stags with crowns round the necks on top. Elaborate
ironwork gate with scrolled side-panels, tulip motif under top of gate
and 2-stage overthrow with ? ducal coronet in top.
