20/10002 Lych gate immediately SW of
Church of Holy Trinity

GV II

Lych gate. Dated 1891. Timber framed on flint and brick plinth with
stone and brick coping. Gable-ended tile roof with bands of fishscale
tiles and decorative ridge tiles. Ornately cusped bargeboards. The
collar rafter roof has brattished and inscribed tie-beams in end
gables, the outer gable with open close-studding and cross at centre,
the inner gable with king-post and diagonal struts. The sides each
have four cusped lights. The lychgate is situated in front of the west
end of Sir G G Scott's 1842 Romanesque church of Holy Trinity (qv).
It was erected in memory of Mr and Mrs Harry Oliver, by their
children.
