2/91 Old Dove House

II

House, formerly farmhouse. C15 or early C16 hall house with C16
gabled cross wings at both ends. C19 alterations. Completely
refaced in 1930s. 4 timber frame bays, the hall part 2 bays.
Painted brick ground floor; upper floor roughcast and cement,
painted to imitate timber frame. 2 storeys and attics. 4
glazing bar casements. C20 gabled porch with C29 flush panel
door in moulded wood frame, the door probably in original
position. C19/20 replacement stack next to left cross wing.
Interior: cross wings have exposed floor beams and jowles. Hall
has a large central truss with heavy curved braces. 2 square
crown posts in roof. Rear stair projection, probably C17,
embedded in a larger C19 red brick projection. C17 red brick
stack on rear of right cross wing.
