House, now shop and offices. Late C16 or early C17, altered in C19/C20.
Timber frame, roughcast with applied timbers. Tiled roof: old tiles to
No. 49, machine tiles to No. 51. L plan single ended hall house. 2
storeys and attic with double jetty to front and left return. 3 window
front: ground floor shop fronts, central entrance with early C19 reeded
surround. First floor: 3 C19 sashes with leaded panes, that to centre
smaller, applied timber studs with ogee heads to each panel. Jettied
attic rests on shaped corbels, decorative applied timber. Central gabled
dormer with 2 leaded lights. Large central ridge stack with central
square shaft and flanking diagonal shafts. Left gable end has casements,
ovolo moulded bressumers, remains of original brackets below sill of
first floor window, some original restored timber framing with C19
applied studs. To rear right is timber framed cross wing, cement
roughcast, slightly lower ridge, exposed purlin in rear gable. Further
additions to rear. Interior: ovolo moulded axial binding beams with bar
stops. Clasped purlin roof. (RCHM Typescript).
