Walled garden to Porters Park Mansion (q.v.) and attached gardener's
cottage. C17 walled garden enlarged in C18. Red brick, English bond to
W, Flemish bond to S and E, largely cement rendered. Tile coping. An
elongated octagon on plan. 3 to 4 metres high. Continuous plinth.
Pilaster buttresses at angles. C19 raking buttresses to C17 walling to
W. Ramps and steps up to N. Principal entrance to NE between brick
piers. Openings with segmental heads to S and W and another access to N
directly into glasshouses which form lean-tos inside wall to N and E.
The Gardens Cottage is c.1840-50 and attached to the wall to S of NE
entrance. Stuccoed brick. Hipped slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 window front.
Central entrance, panelled door and rectangular fanlight. Glazing bar
sashes, ground floor 12 panes, first floor 9 panes, all in reveals.
Eaves soffit. Right return to garden has 4 cast-iron colonnettes to a
small verandah. 2 stacks to rear slightly extruded that to left
demolished. Extended to rear right under catslide roof. Interior not
inspected.
