House. Mid C18 with earlier origins to rear wing; C20 alterations and
additions to left and rear. Brick, colourwashed with small rendered section
to ground floor right. Slate roof to front, pantiles to rear, concrete
tiles to rear wing. L-shaped on plan: 2-room central entrance front (room
to left altered in C20 to rear entrance hall), with wing to rear right, and
C20 extensions to left and rear. 2 storeys, 3 bays; symmetrical. c1970
doorcase with glazed double-leaf doors beneath original Gothick fanlight in
arched reveal. Venetian sash windows with glazing bars, flush wooden
surrounds and brick arches. Round-arched first floor sash above entrance.
Stucco modillion eaves cornice. Stone-coped gable to right with shaped
kneeler; lead-coped gable adjoining extension to left. End stacks. Lower
2-storey, 2-bay right return, facing road, has C19-C20 2-light casements in
original openings with cambered brick arches, coped gable; single storey
single-bay extension to right with similar window and tumbled brick gable.
Interior. Open-well staircase with ramped and wreathed handrail and fluted
column-on-vase balusters with square knops; dentilled plaster cornice to
ground floor right; original first floor chimneypieces with pulvinated
friezes, one with dentilled cornice; fielded-panel window shutters and doors
in architraves, earlier C18 2-panelled to rear wing. Reputedly a hunting
lodge of the Pelhams, Earls of Yarborough.
