4/29 Manor Farmhouse

GV II

House. Late C18 - early C19, perhaps with earlier origins; later C19
additions and alterations. Brick in Flemish bond. Pantile roof. L-shaped
on plan: 2-room central entrance hall south front with wing to rear left
containing secondary entrance hall and former back kitchen; later outshut in
angle. 2 storeys with attic, 3 bays; symmetrical. Steps to recessed
6-panel door (2 glazed top panels above 2 fielded and 2 plain lower panels)
and plain overlight in plain heavy timber frame beneath stucco flat arch.
Later C19 12-pane ground floor sashes beneath original stucco flat arches.
Original 16-pane first floor sashes in flush wooden architraves beneath
similar arches, with a narrower window over the entrance. Stepped and
dentilled brick eaves cornice. Stone-coped gables with shaped kneelers.
End stacks. Left return: 6-panel door and surround similar to front,
flanked by 12-pane sash to right, late C19 tripartite sash to left with
glazing bars. Two 12-pane first-floor sashes to left in flush wooden
architraves, painted dummy window and attic 4-pane sliding sash to right;
eaves cornice, gable and end stack similar to front. Interior contains open-
well staircase with moulded handrail and plain balusters.
