Sharpening stone for slate pencils. 1896 by Croft and Bentley of
Grimsby, architects, and Henry Marrows, builder, for Cleethorpes School
Board. Brick and stone. Brick drum 5 courses high with stone top, worn
by sharpening pencils. Approximately 0.9 metre diameter and 0.5 metre
high. Served former Boys' School, now part of Barcroft Junior School
(qv). An unusual survival. Two similar sharpening stones installed to
serve the former Girls' and Infants' Schools (now Barcroft Junior
School, section fronting onto Barcroft Street [qv), were removed to
make way for a new classroom in the early C20. E R Hall
