Gates, gate piers, and flanking walls in semicircular plan. Early C19.
Cast iron to gates (reinforced with C20 steel), stone to gate piers, white
brick with stone dressings to flanking walls. Gates: much altered: central
foliate panel flanked by railings under round arcading. Gate piers: square
piers on a moulded plinth. Central round sunk panels with rosettes to main
faces with oblong panels partly embracing them above and below. Friezes,
with masks and foliage, under cornices enriched with egg and dart which
carry bases for finials, now removed. Flanking walls: low plinth to coped
wall terminating in piers with pyramidal caps. Volute brackets enriched
with fruit and foliage support the gate piers from the coping of the
flanking walls. Included for group value.
