2/17 Lodge Farmhouse
Farmhouse. Early C18 with later Cl8-C19 additions and C20 rendering. Red
brick, partly in English bond to sides and rear, rendered to front and later
addition. Welsh slate roof to early section, pantile roof to additions.
L-shaped on plan: original double-depth section with 2-room central entrance
east front and central projecting stair turret to rear, with single-room
extension to right and 2-room addition to rear right. 2 storeys with attic,
5 bays: original 3-bay section with lower 2-storey 2-bay extension to right.
C20 part-glazed door in wooden architrave, somewhat damaged. C19 4-pane
sashes with moulded ashlar sills; inserted C20 casement to ground floor
left. Moulded brick corbelled eaves cornice. Stone-coped gables with
shaped kneelers, C19 end stacks to early section; end stack to extension.
Attic window to left gable. Interior. Good original 2-flight return
staircase with closed string, corniced handrail, plain newels and splat
balusters with bulb profile; plain balusters to attic flight. Spine beams
to main rooms: chamfered with cyma stops to first floor right, remainder
boxed-in. Fielded-panel doors and window seats. Elliptical-arched brick
fireplace to ground floor right with inserted C19 marble chimney-piece
below. 4-bay roof with pegged collars, ridge-piece and pairs of trenched
purlins. Empty and partly derelict at time of resurvey.
