3/29 Monumental arch
approximately 60 metres
south of Rawcliffe Hall
Monumental arch. Late C18 - early C19. Sandstone ashlar. Classical style.
Approximately 5 metres wide, 1 metre deep, 5 metres high. Doric arch with
paired columns (outer square columns and inner round columns) on pedestals,
carrying entablature with plain frieze, cornice and blocking course. Single
round columns to returns. Stands over a pathway to the former walled
gardens. Probably originally a porch, perhaps from the forerunner of the
present late C19 Rawcliffe Hall.
