5/36 The Elms
Farmhouse. Late C18 - early C19. Brick with pantile roof. Plan: 2-room
central entrance-hall front with single-room extension to left. 2 storeys,
3 bays; symmetrical, with low 2-storey single-bay extension to left.
Pilastered doorcase with modillioned cornice and hood, 6-fielded-panel door
and plain overlight in reveal, flanked by later C19 four-pane sashes in
original flush wooden architraves with sills and segmental stretcher arches.
2-course brick first-floor band. First floor: similar windows beneath
lintels. Stepped eaves. Raised gables with tumbled-in brick. End stacks,
that to left rebuilt in C19 with cogged brick cornice. Extension: 16-pane
ground-floor sash in flush wooden architrave with small 2-light sliding sash
to right; similar 4-pane sliding sash and small single-light window to first
floor; stepped eaves, tumbled-in brick to raised gable. Interior has
central open well staircase with pantry behind; spine beams to main rooms.
Empty and in disrepair at time to resurvey.
