Church. 1897-8. By Smith, Brodrick and Lowther. Yellow brick with ashlar
dressings, plain tile roof. West tower with clasping aisles, 4-bay nave
with transepts,2-bay chancel with vestry to south. In Decorated style. 5-
stage tower with diagonal buttesses and turret to upper 2 stages of south-
west angle. Pointed doorway with round nook-shafts flanked by 2-light
pointed windows to aisles. 3-light pointed window above tower door and
double belfry opening to each face. Embattled parapet with pinnacles.
Nave: 3-light square-headed windows to aisles, and 2-light square-headed
windows to clerestory. Pointed 3-light windows to transepts. 2-light
square-headed window to vestry. Chancel: 2-light pointed windows except for
5-light pointed east window. Interior: imposing arcade of 2 chamfered
orders on round piers. Tall chancel arch. Pevsner N, Yorkshire: York and
the East Riding, 1972.
