17/64 The Vicarage
GV II
Vicarage. 1821 with addition of 1841. Yellow brick in Flemish bond, stone
dressings, Westmorland slate roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays to garden front:
sashes with glazing bars throughout, those to ground floor taller, all below
wedge lintels. Continuous sill to first-floor windows. Hipped roof with
stacks rising through pitch of roof. Entrance to left return is in fine
glazed timber conservatory. Interior: present kitchen is former dining room
and has an elliptical arch defining service area. Fluted cornice with
paterae to angles. Egg-and-dart frieze to drawing room. Elliptical arch to
entrance hall. Cantilevered open-string staircase with square-section
balusters.
