Threshing barn and adjoining stable/granary. C18 with late C19 - early C20
refronting to stable/granary range. Red brown brick with pantile roofs.
L-shaped on plan: 2-room stable/granary range to north and threshing barn
adjoining to east, forming courtyard to rear of Church Farmhouse (qv).
Threshing barn: 2 storeys, 7 internal bays. West side has door beneath
cambered arch, flanked by breather slit and hatch beneath timber lintel to
left, pair of breather slits and small inserted board door to right; row of
5 slits above; dentilled brick eaves cornice. East side has similar door,
slightly widened to left, flanked by pair of breather slits left, and 4 to
right (the 2 to far right blocked); pair of pitching hatches above, with
board doors beneath segmental arches, flanked by 5 breather slits; similar
eaves cornice. Gable ends have pairs of breather slits to each level.
Stable/granary: lower 2 storey, with 3 first-floor openings to south side.
Pair of stable doors beneath segmental arches, that to right flanked by a
pair of 2-light openings beneath similar arches; small single 2-light
opening to far left beneath timber lintel. First floor has pair of 2-light
openings to right beneath segmental arches, and lower 2-light opening to
left with blocked opening above. Dentilled brick eaves cornice. Barn has
7-bay queen-strut roof with pegged staggered butt purlins, incorporating
sections of earlier oak timber framing. Included for group value.
