Centenary Methodist chapel. 1837. Red brick, with front of red stock brick
in Flemish bond, ashlar dressings. Concrete tile roof. Rectangular on
plan, with canted apse for organ chamber at east end. 2 storeys, 3 bays;
symmetrical. Plinth. Angle pilasters. 3 steps to round-headed entrance
with double panelled doors and fanlight with glazing bars beneath rubbed-
brick arch, flanked by round-headed windows with sills and glazing bars
beneath brick arches. First-floor band. First floor has central Venetian
window with ashlar dressings, flanked by round-headed windows similar to
ground floor. Narrow band above. Gable has central rectangular recessed
stucco panel flanked by smaller similar panels; central oval tablet above
with moulded border and date. 2-bay sides and rear have segmental and
round-headed windows. Interior. Fluted octagonal columns supporting
gallery to all 4 sides, with coved underside and panelled front with moulded
plinth, fluted pilasters and corniced rail. Large panelled pulpit and
staircase with balustrade of slender column-on-vase balusters with square
knops. Pilastered elliptical arch to organ chamber. Ceiling has ribbed
plaster cornice and central moulded rose surrounded with smaller roses.
