House. c1800 with alterations of 1930's. Handmade brick in English bond
with front facade of machine made red brick in Flemish bond, with stone
dressings and Westmorland slate roof. Central-hallway entry, 2 rooms in
depth with cross wing to rear. 2 storeys, 5 bays with advanced central bay.
Tuscan porch containing 6-fielded-panel door with overlight. Ground floor
fenestration altered in 1930's to 16-pane sashes flanked by 8-pane sashes on
continuous sill to either side of door. First .floor: ashlar band and sashes
with glazing bars to original design. Flat brick arches throughout.
Modillion eaves course. Hipped roof. Rear wall stacks. Interior: arch
with panelled reveals and imposts to hall. Open-string staircase with 2
slender column balusters per tread, carved tread ends and ramped handrail
with fine inlaid star motif to spiral newel. Arch with panelled reveals and
imposts to landing with a blind arch next to it. Original fireplace to main
bedroom with cast-iron grate, and drops, festoons and rosettes to fire
surround. Original moulded cornices to most rooms. Neave D, Howden
