South Lodge Cottage



1/37 South Lodge Cottage


Lodge cottage, between 1820 and 1830 for Sir Robert Sheffield, with
later extension to rear. Front of squared ironstone rubble with ashlar
dressings. Sides and rear of coursed ironstone rubble with brick
dressings. Welsh slate roof, yellow brick stack. Single storey with
attic, 3 bays; symmetrical. Rusticated quoins. Central nail-studded
plank door in rusticated surround flanked by boarded windows with
similar surrounds to either side. Hipped roof with deep eaves.
Chamfered central stack with cornice. Rear elevation to Normanby Road
has central plank door, 3 blocked windows and 2 gabled dormers. Empty
at time of re-survey.
