House. C17 or earlier origins, encased in C18 - early C19, raised and
extended to rear in late C19 - early C20. Renovated, with new windows and
rear porch c.1980. Timber framing encased in brick, rendered to front gable
end and earlier section of left return; remainder colourwashed. Pantile
roof. Plan: 2 (probably originally 3) bays of timber frame, now 2 rooms,
with former lobby entry to right return and later kitchen extension with
porch to rear. Gable end to street. 2 low storey, 2-bay section to front;
2 storeys, 2 bays, to rear. Plain board door to front gable-end, with 16-
pane sliding sash and brick coped and tumbled gable. Right return (former
front): enclosed gabled porch to right end, blocked door to right of centre,
two 12-pane sliding sashes and one small 18-pane sliding sash. First floor
has one small 18-pane sliding sash to lower section on left, and one 12-pane
sliding sash and 2 casements to full 2-storey section to right. Gutters
supported on wrought-iron brackets to left, wooden brackets to right. Large
axial stack. Interior: wall-post, girding beam, tie beam and wall plates
exposed beside stack; arch-braced tie beam, cut for later door, contained
within first floor partition; large stack with timber bressumers to
fireplaces; later beamed ceilings to ground floor, probably representing
inserted first floor or replacement.
