flanking walls to front
of Horkstow Hall

GV II

Gate, gate piers and flanking dwarf walls. Gate piers and walls of 1776;
gates and overthrow probably early C19. Ashlar gate piers and ashlar coping
on brick wall. Wrought-iron gates and overthrow. Square-section piers with
chamfered plinth, vermiculated rustication, modillioned cornice and stumps
of former cone finials. Overthrow with central urn finial flanked by
scrollwork. Gates have bars with ornate finials, wavy dog bars below middle
rail, and ramped top rail. Dwarf walls with moulded coping ramped up to
gate and at each end, inserted gate to left section and rusticated ashlar
stump of former pier at right end.
