7/61 Monument and Drinking
Trough
GV II
Monument and drinking trough. 1897 with earlier origins, restored and
plaques added in 1957 by Philip Pape of Barton. Limestone ashlar column and
pedestal, sandstone trough, green slate plaques. Square section pedestal
with moulded plinth and cornice with carved lion's head waterspout to front;
tapered column with moulded base and capital, square abacus and restored
carved crown. Large circular drinking trough with hollow-moulded side.
Inscribed plaque to front of pedestal records 60th year of reign of Queen
Victoria and memory of Frederick Horsley, died 1897, "Having been for 42
years the faithful and respected steward of this Estate". Second smaller
plaque below records Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth and restoration of
1957.
