Threshing barn and cartshed/workshop/stable/granary ranges. Mid C19 for T G
Corbett with later additions and alterations. Red brick in Flemish bond
with limestone ashlar dressings; concrete pantiles to south-east range, clay
pantiles to remainder. Plan: forms 3 sides of rectangular farmyard to rear
of main coach-house (qv): barn to south-west with adjoining ranges at right
angles; workshop and stables/granary to north-west, cartshed/granary to
south-east. South-west range, internal face: 2-storey, 7-bay barn flanked
by low 2-storey, single-bay ranges. Barn: central ashlar basket-arched
entrance with keyed chamfered rustication and ashlar band at impost level,
blocked basket-arched door to right with rusticated ashlar quoins and
keystone, 6 first-floor Gothick ogee-arched carved ashlar ventilators.
Flanking ranges have ashlar band; C20 sliding door to left; blocked door
with casement above to right; stepped and cogged brick eaves cornices.
External face: barn has ashlar keystone and imposts to central entrance, 5
ground-floor diamond-shaped brick breathers, segmental-headed door and
window to right, and 2 square first-floor pitching hatches flanked by pairs
of diamond breathers; lower range to right has blocked arched entrance with
ashlar key and imposts, round-headed window with ovolo-moulded ashlar
surround, later blocked door and inserted window; range to left has entrance
with board doors beneath segmental arch, C20 casement beneath former arched
entrance, inserted windows and door. South-east range, internal face: low 2
storeys, 10 bays, with later single-bay extension to north. 10 basket-
arched cart entrances with ashlar keystones and imposts, of which the 2
southern entrances are open, the remainder with later C19-C20 blocking and
inserted doors and windows; single narrow arched entrance to southern angle
with ashlar impost band. First floor: 6 hatches with ventilation grilles;
casement to left extension. Stepped and cogged brick eaves cornice, roof
hipped to right. External face: 10 cart entrances, that to south with pair
of board doors, remainder blocked; 5 original and 3 inserted first-floor
hatches with grilles and board doors. North east range, internal face: low
2 storeys, 13 bays, with later 3-bay addition and house to northern angle.
Early section has 3 segmental-arched cart entrances with ashlar keystones, 5
segmental-arched doors (1 blocked with inserted casement), 2 segmental-
arched windows and 3 tall workshop windows with glazing bars, re-glazed in
C20; 9 first-floor segmental-arched openings, 4 glazed, the remainder
blocked. Exterior face forms arcaded screen wall facing the Park: 5 bays,
central and outer bays breaking forward. 8 basket-arched panels with raised
ashlar keys and imposts: single arches to outer bays, twin arches to central
bays; 4 arches with contemporary recessed blocking (1 with inserted door), 3
with full C20 glazing and 1 with large C20 window above blocking. First-
floor hatches with C20 glazing. Stepped and cogged brick eaves cornice,
pair of axial stacks. North-west range partly occupied by tea shop at time
of resurvey.
