House. 1839, for Mr S Chapman. Grey brick with stone dressings, graduated
slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 x 3 bays. Left and right bays break forward
slightly. Semicircular porch with Doric pilasters, entablature, and
blocking course surmounted by railing. Sashes with glazing bars under
channelled, cambered wedge lintels with decorated key block. First floor
band. Similar sashes to left and right, central French door with margin-
pane glazing. Oversailing eaves, hipped roof, rear wall stacks. The house
contains a large number of original features including a cut-string stair
with turned balusters and moulded handrail.
