School. 1857 by S S Teulon for the Crown Commissioners, with C20 additions
and alterations. Red brick in Flemish bond, colour-washed to south side.
Banded slate roof. T-shaped on plan: schoolroom with contemporary north
central wing extended in C20, later extension to east, and original lean-to
section adjoining schoolhouse (qv) to west; entrance facing yard to north.
Single storey. South side: 6 windows, irregular fenestration. Chamfered
plinth. External stack to left of centre with tumbled-in brick to offsets,
segmental-pointed recessed panel with tablet bearing crown, royal cypher and
date, tall chimney shaft with black brick cornice and square pot. To left:
C20 tripartite window with glazing bars, small lancet to lean-to, ashlar
string course. To right: similar tripartite window, three 15-pane windows.
All windows with rounded-chamfered sills and brick arches. Overhanging
eaves with exposed rafter ends. Roof hipped to right. Diagonally-set
square bell turret corbelled-out to left gable, with splayed base,
buttresses flanking segmental-arched openings to each side, ashlar string
course and polygonal brick spire with weather-vane. North side: main range
with 4 lancets to right; central wing with triple lancets to each side,
inserted door to north-west angle, inserted garage door to north end, hipped
roof. One of a series of C19 Crown estate buildings by Teulon. Included
