Gatehouse, now offices. Mid-late C18. By James Wyatt for William Constable
with later additions and alterations including wings c1830-40. Pinkish-
brown brick in Flemish bond with ashlar dressings and concealed lead and
Welsh slate roofs. 7 bays in total. Central bay has 2-storey arch with
single-storey over, between 3-storey, single-bay octagonal turrets, flanked
by single-bay, 2-storey wings. Long single-storey, single-bay wings
attached to either side with walls, curved on plan, ending in octagonal
'turret-piers' beyond to either side. Chamfered plinth. Central Tudor-
arched carriage opening with double-hollow-chamfered surround with double
gates. Shield over to centre. Hollow-chamfered ashlar band. To top storey
a 12-pane Yorkshire sash under hollow-chamfered hoodmould with label stops.
Turrets: entrances, alike to inner returns: elliptically-arched, 6-fielded-
panel doors. To front facade a single narrow window to each floor under
hollow-chamfered hoodmould with label stops. Wings, to ground floor both
have 6-pane Yorkshire sashes, first floor has casement window to left and 8-
pane Yorkshire sash to right, all under similar hoodmoulds. Hollow-
chamfered cornice. Outer wings have 12-pane Yorkshire sashes, with similar
hoodmoulds. All bays with hollow-chamfered cornices and embattled parapets.
Projecting embattled stacks to sides of C18 build. Flanking walls extend
approximately 5 metres, with chamfered plinths and battlements. End
octagonal 'piers'. Interior. Turrets have spiral staircases, 6-fielded-
panel doors and revealed rafters to some rooms. End 'piers' built to house
