Church. C12 west tower, early C13 aisles to nave, late C13 chancel, C19
belfry, C19 porch and alterations including tracery. Ashlar with
repairs in red tile, slate roofs. 3-bay chancel, 3-bay aisled nave,
south porch, west tower. Nave has chamfered plinth and 3-light square-
headed windows with Reticulated tracery . Low parapet to aisles; coped
gable to nave with cross finial. Lower chancel with double chamfered
plinth. Priest's door in west bay with nook shafts supporting 2 moulded
orders. Chamfered string at sill level, 2-light windows with
Geometrical tracery. Gabled buttresses with crocketed finials, low
parapet. 4-light east window with Geometrical tracery under coped gable
with cross finial. West tower of 3 stages. Small lancets to lower
stage, sill band and 2-light belfry openings with mid-wall shafts and
typanum with circular sound holes all in round-headed openings with
chamfered imposts and plain reveals. Pyramidal roof behind battlemented
parapet on corbel table. Interior has C12 tower arch, early C13 aisles
with round piers and abaci supporting pointed double-chamfered arches,
and a late C13 chancel arch. Early C14 sedilia with continuous
mouldings and crocketed gables. C14 piscina with foliage and human
face. C12 font with alternating circle and lozenge ornament. In the
south aisle is a monument to the local authoress Winifred Holtby who is
buried in the churchyard.
