7/78 Mill and maltings

- II

Mill and maltings. 1840, with late C19 extensions. Brown brick with stone
dressings, slate roof. Main mill range with maltings cross wing. Mill of
5 storeys, 13 bays 6:1:6, maltings of 5 storeys, 5 bays, with C19 extensions
to east and west. Mill: ground floor has central double-leaf boarded
loading doors to right and left wings flanked by segmental-headed openings
with flagstone sills all under a verandah roof with slate covering.
Elsewhere, throughout upper floors, segmental-headed openings with flagstone
sills containing pivoting boarded shutters beneath 4-pane windows.
Weatherboarded superstructure to centre bay beneath separate gabled roof.
Shaped kneelers, plain close verges. Datestone beneath centre bay 4-floor
window: 'MDCCCXL'. Maltings: of similar character. To left, segmental arch
to mill race below ground floor level. Ground floor and first floor windows
have 16-pane iron frames under segmental heads. One window to second floor
retains casement with glazing bars to left and louvres to right. All other
original openings blocked. Roof bears 2 axially-placed air vents to malt-
kilns below.
