7/79 Railway Station and
Station-Master's house

Railway station and station-master's house. 1846. By G T Andrews for the
York and North Midland Railway. Brown and red brick with sandstone
dressings, slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Balanced elevation with outshut
to left and rear wing. Plinth. Tuscan portico to centre bay: 4 antae on
raised bases carrying full entablature. 4-panelled door to right, C20 door
to station-master's house to left, each with oblong fanlight. Ground floor
has sashes with glazing bars sunk into rectangular recesses with sills and
flat gauged brick lintels. Cyma recta moulded first floor sill band.
Sashes with glazing bars to right and to left, similar, smaller,sash to
centre, all under flat gauged brick lintels. Rear wall stacks, bracketed
oversailing eaves.
