Circa 1780. ('Newbuilt' for Sir James Pennyman in 1784). Three storeys in
red brick with slate roof. Original dentil and ogee bracketed eaves cornice
raised. Four windows, painted, gauged flat arches, near flush frame sashes
with glazing bars. Wood doorcase with architrave, chambranles, enriched
consoles, frieze and dentil pediment. Wrought iron guard rails. Second floor,
a late C19 addition with casements, has brickwork matching the old reasonably
well. Staircase has open string, slender columnar balusters, moulded handrail
with spiral curtail. Back stairs similar, but with closed string. Doors with
fielded panels. Principal ground floor room has early C19 marble chimneypiece
similar to that in Library of Norwood House. Other ground floor rooms have
fielded panelling to dado height.
