Railway station, 1846 by G T Andrews for the York and North Midland Railway with
later additions and alterations for the North Eastern railway. Brick into slate
roofs. Main elevation symmetrical,with wings with 4 windows in recesses flanking
centre section of 4 windows and 2 doors under later canopy, glazed, with iron
brackets. Lower outer sections of the wings have 3 arches, blocked or with
windows or doors. Tall brick chimneys. Good hipped glazed roof canopy over the
track, altered circa 1900. Far platform has 6 windows with fixed glazing bars.
Waiting room and yard doors. Footbridge linking platforms. Tile region map.
