GV II

Walls and gate piers. c1600 with later additions and alterations. Pinkish-
orange brick in English garden wall bond with ashlar dressings.
Approximately inverted U-shaped on plan with extension to west which abutts
gatehouse (qv). Walls are approximately 3 metres high and stepped. Mainly
with moulded plinth, dentil cornice and rubbed brick copings which are bell-
shaped on section, except to north wall of walled garden which has pilaster
buttresses and ashlar copings. Entrances to walled garden on north wall,
one an inserted flat-headed entrance to north-west corner with C18 wrought-
iron gate, the other with cambered head between square piers which have
pyramidal finials and wrought-iron gate between. To west of walled garden
a blocked elliptically-arched opening.
